Pakistan reports 40 new corona deaths Sindh govt extends lockdown

The National Command and Operation Centre on Thursday reported new 2,145 coronavirus cases raising the nationwide tally to 258,986, and 40 deaths over the past 24 hours.
According to the breakup of the cases, 110,068 infections have been detected in
Sindh so far, 88,539 in Punjab, 31,217 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,239 in Balochistan, 14,402 in Islamabad, 1,771 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 1,750 in Gilgit Baltistan.
The Sindh government on Thursday extended the province-wide lockdown enforced to curb the spread of the coronavirus until August 15.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the lockdown was being extended to “protect the lives of people”. He further said that following SOPs was the need of the time, adding that it was “important that SOPs are strictly followed in mosques, offices and bazaars”. Shah said that marriage halls would remain closed and and public gatherings would be banned during this time.
Meanwhile, Sindh has reported 1,155 Covid-19 new cases and 34 deaths during the past 24 hours, according to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
In a statement released by CM House, Shah said 10,574 tests were carried out during the last 24 hours.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said Pakistan recorded the lowest number of patients on ventilators since June 8, lowest daily deaths since May 28 and lowest positivity ratio since mid April, while comparing it to India’s record of 600 deaths on Wednesday. Punjab has reported 494 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the provincial total to 88,539, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal.
