Pakistan has confirmed 74 deaths in a single day by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 250,569. The nationwide tally of fatalities jumped to 5,245 on Sunday.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center 2,521 persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours.
Till now 105,533 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 86,556 in Punjab, 30,078 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,157 in Balochistan, 14,023 in Islamabad, 1,658 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,564 in Azad Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema has been moved to the PIMS hospital in Islamabad after testing positive for the virus.
According to reports, the minister was moved to the isolation ward of the hospital Saturday night.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 1,713 coronavirus cases and 48 deaths were reported in the province during the past 24 hours.
In a statement, the chief minister said that the provincial total has risen to 105,533 while the death toll is 1,795. “Another 1,519 patients also recovered during the past 24 hours, taking the total to 60,958,” he added.
Punjab has reported 565 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the government’s Covid-19 portal, taking the provincial total to 86,556. The province’s death toll has risen to 2,006 after 21 additional fatalities were confirmed.
More than 303 new cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the provincial tally to 30,078, according to the KP health department. Thirteen more people succumbed to te deadly virus.
Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information Kamran Bangash has appealed to people to follow standard operating procedures advised by the government on Eidul Azha and not repeat mistakes made during Eidul Fitr.
A failure to follow the SOPs could result in the outbreak of the virus getting out of control, he warned.
