With 1,538 new cases reported in the province in 24 hours, Sindh’s virus tally on Thursday reached 100,900, making it the first province to cross the 100,000 mark. Moreover, 40 more people succumbed to the virus in a day, taking the provincial death toll to 1,677.
As many as 3,359 new cases of the novel coronavirus emerged in the country, taking the national tally of cases to 240,847. Sixty-one more people fell prey to the highly contagious disease during this period, pushing the country’s death toll to 4,983, according to the National Command and Operation Centre on coronavirus.
In Sindh 99,362 cases have been detected so far, 84,587 in Punjab, 29,052 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,052 in Balochistan, 13,731 in Islamabad, 1,459 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 1,605 in Gilgit Baltistan.
Punjab province reported 26 more fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,955.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said the number of coronavirus cases in the province significantly decreased after imposing ‘smart lockdowns’.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has reported another nine fatalities due to Covid-19 to bring the death toll to 1,054. According to officials, 372 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours to swell the provincial tally to 29,052.
Balochistan has reported 133 more cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 11,052. According to the daily situation report issued by the provincial health department, the death toll in the province stands at 124.
