Member of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports and a senior parliamentarian, Iqbal Mohammad Ali, has termed the formation of the governing board of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) as unconstitutional.
Talking to media person today (Sunday), Iqbal Mohammad Ali said that dictatorship was being promoted instead of democracy in the National Institution of Sports.
He also criticized the selection of representatives in the Pakistan Sports Board and said that the members of the Sports Board Executive Committee have been selected through favoritism.
He further said, ‘Unrelated people are being selected as representatives of sports the organization,” adding that reducing the representation of other sports, including hockey, through a constitutional amendment falls into the category of injustice.
He slammed the notification of constitutional amendment by the Federal Ministry of Sports, saying that the notification did not meet the democratic requirements. The parliamentarian said that such decisions would tarnish the image of the government of Pakistan and the reputation of the institution.
“The lack of interest of the Federal Minister in Inter-Provincial Coordination has severely affected the sports structure, which has led to the collapse of sports development projects,” he concluded.
