After de-sealing the Markaz G-9 known as Karachi Company and two sub-sectors G-9/2 and G-9/3 Sunday midnight, the district administration is now all set to end lockdown in subsectors of I-8 and I-10 as promising results were reported of the lockdown in these sectors.
Capital Administration had sealed I-8/3, I-8/4, I-8 Markaz, I-10/1, I-10/2 and I-10 Markaz on June 18 to prevent the community spread of the coronavirus under the Epidemic Diseases Control Act (with effect from 12am on June 18).
According to Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Hamza Shafqaat, 14 days will be completed in the next four days since lockdown was imposed in the above mentioned sectors and their opening is now a matter of days.
“After completion of 14 days, Sectors I-8/3, I-8/4, I-10/1 and I-10/2 will also be opened soon within this week as the policy of locking down sectors may not eradicate the diseases completely but it surely is flattening the curve,” said Hamza Shafqaat who has been working tirelessly along with the ICT and health teams to ensure virus doesn’t spread any further.
The lockdown has brought down the daily cases count from 771 (on June 14) to 189 (on June 28), he further said.
Islamabad on Sunday reported 12,395 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 122 deaths against 12,206 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 120 on Saturday. This means during the last twenty-four hours 190 new cases and two deaths occurred.
So far we have conducted more than 100,000 tests in the federal capital whose total population is a little more than 2.3 million said the DC. About the lockdown in G-6, 7 and 10 subsectors and also in the Ghouri Town (two phases), he said promising results are being reported from there also and the number of new cases has reduced significantly.
