The newly-elected interim Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, Muhammad Hussain Khateeb has stressed the solution of Kashmir dispute under the United Nations resolutions.
Muhammad Hussain Khateeb in a statement issued in Islamabad said that India was committing massive human rights violations in the garb of COVID-19 across the territory. He said that the people of Kashmir would foil the conspiracies and propaganda of the Indian fascist government.
Praying for speedy recovery of APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, he paid rich tributes to him, adding that he continued to remain as an icon of resistance against India’s illegal occupation over Jammu and Kashmir.
He also paid tributes to the sacrifices of Hurriyat leaders, activists and supporters and reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue liberation struggle till complete success.
He said that all the moves taken by the Indian government in occupied Kashmir had no moral, democratic and international status and the people of Kashmir and the international community had rejected it.
He expressed the hope that all the friendly countries and especially Pakistan would play a role in settling the Kashmir dispute according to the will of the Kashmiri people.
Condemning Indian state terrorism, extra-judicial killing and arrest of Hurriyat leaders in occupied Kashmir, he also demanded immediate implementation of the last year UN report for release of all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and repeal of black laws from the territory.
Kashmiri scholars associated with the Kashmir Scholars Consultative and Action Network (KSCAN), an interdisciplinary group of scholars from various countries and regions, has sought intervention by the UN General Secretary, António Guterres, on urgently basis to prevent forced demographic change in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the KSCAN, which is engaged in research on Kashmir dispute in an open letter addressed to the UN chief, the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect and the UN Security Council said, “Each of us has written about Kashmiri history, society, culture, and politics, and their relation to the protracted conflict; and we are particularly concerned about the present conditions of violence in Kashmir.”
“Our research on the Kashmir conflict addresses its history, its consequences for the region and beyond, and its possible resolution. It has implications for an internationally mediated political solution and is of relevance to policy makers,” the letter adds.
Here is the complete text of the open letter: His Excellency, António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations His Excellency, Adama Dieng, Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect
Her Excellency, Karen Smith, Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Responsibility to Protect, United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect All members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Your Excellencies, We urge and request an intermediate intervention to prevent forced demographic change in Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir (IAJK), the portion of the historic state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) administered by the Government of India (GoI). Forced population transfers and moved populations are illegal under international law, prohibited by Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and condemned by the United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities.
The already dire humanitarian and human rights situation in IAJK has substantially deteriorated since August 5, 2019 when GoI stripped the people of IAJK of critical rights, intensified its militarized occupation and embarked on a campaign of collective punishment and mass incarceration. In the last few weeks, GoI has implemented policies that will result in the forcible transfer of indigenous Muslims out of IAJK and the transfer of non-local Hindus from India into IAJK.
