ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) conducted a comprehensive field assessment of mobile network performance across Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday, evaluating service quality, network reliability and consumer experience at key locations across the twin cities.
Led by PTA Chairman Major General (Retd.) Hafeez Ur Rehman, the exercise involved three dedicated teams simultaneously assessing mobile networks along designated routes. The assessment covered New Islamabad International Airport, T-Chowk, Constitution Avenue, Club Road, Murree Road, Rawal Road, Srinagar Highway, major connecting corridors and areas surrounding the old airport.
Jazz demonstrated strong performance during the assessment, recording peak download speeds of up to 650 Mbps alongside consistent voice call quality and data performance. The results reflect the operator’s continued investment in network modernization, spectrum optimization and infrastructure expansion.
During the exercise, survey teams and media representatives conducted live voice calls, including intercity calls, and used mobile data services at various locations to evaluate actual network performance under everyday usage conditions. The assessment examined service availability, call continuity, download speeds and the reliability of mobile data connections.
A significant factor supporting Jazz’s network performance is its spectrum portfolio, particularly its deployment of the 700 MHz band. Jazz was the only operator to acquire spectrum in this low-frequency band during Pakistan’s latest spectrum auction, providing an additional advantage in wider network coverage and improved indoor signal penetration compared to higher-frequency bands.
The operator has also continued expanding its 4G infrastructure while accelerating its 5G rollout. Jazz has deployed 5G services across 1,237 operational sites nationwide, including 126 sites in Islamabad and 64 in Rawalpindi. Its deployments also extend to Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar and several other cities.
The PTA assessment was attended by senior regulatory officials, including Member (Finance) Muhammad Naveed, Member (Compliance and Enforcement) Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Telecom) Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim and Director General (Enforcement) Brigadier (Retd.) Amer Shahzad. Representatives of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, mobile network operators and media organizations also participated.
According to the PTA, preliminary findings indicated excellent network performance in the areas covered during the survey. The exercise aimed to evaluate Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS), while identifying potential service gaps and areas requiring further improvement.
The field assessment follows an earlier exercise conducted on October 31 by the PTA’s Director General (Enforcement), as the regulator continues monitoring network improvements across the twin cities.
The authority said regular field monitoring, evidence-based assessments and coordination with telecom operators would remain central to strengthening service quality and ensuring reliable connectivity for consumers.
