LAHORE – Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has restricted gas supply to domestic consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), limiting availability to three specific time slots daily amid declining liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies and rising demand during the winter season.
Under the revised schedule, the gas will be available to household consumers from 6:30am to 9am, 12pm to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm every day, starting Wednesday.
The decision aims to manage limited gas reserves while ensuring that domestic consumers receive priority, particularly during peak cooking hours.
The restriction comes as colder weather increases household gas consumption, putting additional pressure on the country’s available gas supplies. Reduced LNG availability has further complicated the supply situation, prompting authorities to introduce a scheduled distribution system.
Meanwhile, SNGPL has also reduced gas supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector from 50 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) to 35 MMCFD.
The company is reportedly planning to completely suspend gas supplies to CNG stations over the next few days as part of efforts to redirect available resources towards domestic consumption.
The government’s decision to prioritise household consumers reflects the pressure on the country’s gas distribution network during winter, when demand for cooking and heating rises significantly.
The consumers in the affected regions will now have to adjust their daily routines according to the revised supply timings. The limited schedule is likely to remain in place amid concerns over LNG availability and the growing gap between gas demand and supply.
