Pakistan Reports Eighth Polio Case of 2026 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan has confirmed its eighth polio case of 2026 in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), involving a 13-month-old girl from Tehsil Bara, the National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication (NEOC) said.

The case is the second reported in Khyber district and the sixth in KP this year. Sindh has reported the remaining two cases.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are considering targeted vaccination measures to prevent further transmission.

Positive environmental samples in the Peshawar Block, which includes Peshawar and Khyber districts, indicate continued circulation of the virus.

The Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative has urged parents to ensure that all children under five receive polio vaccines during the upcoming subnational campaign from November 2 to 8. The campaign aims to vaccinate nearly 24 million children across 97 districts.

Pakistan recorded 31 polio cases in 2025, while eight have been reported so far this year. Polio has no cure but can be prevented through repeated vaccination.
