According to local police and rescue officials, the mehndi ceremony attracted hundreds of attendees, with many gathering outside the stadium in anticipation of a prize distribution event organised for members of the public.
Rescue 1122 officials said the stadium gates were opened earlier than scheduled, prompting people waiting outside to surge towards the entrance. The sudden rush triggered a stampede as people pushed forward, leaving several individuals trapped in the chaos.
At least 14 people sustained injuries during the incident, with one later losing his life. Rescue 1122 immediately launched an emergency response, dispatching four ambulances and a motorcycle ambulance to the stadium.
Rescue teams provided assistance to the victims before transporting all 14 affected individuals to Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital in Sialkot. However, the tragedy deepened when a 30-year-old man, identified as Aqeel, succumbed to his injuries after reaching the hospital. His death brought the confirmed toll to one fatality and 13 injured.
Police officials said most of the injured individuals were subsequently discharged after receiving initial medical treatment.
Amid reports of stampede, Sialkot District Police Officer Captain (retd) Dost Muhammad rushed to the stadium with a heavy police contingent. According to a police spokesperson, officers immediately joined rescue personnel in managing the situation and assisting those affected.
Initial probe shows that the large gathering had been drawn to the venue by the prize draw announced as part of the TikToker’s wedding celebrations. Authorities believe the sudden opening of the stadium gates caused the waiting crowd to rush inside, leading to the stampede.
DPO Sialkot Captain (retd) Dost Muhammad assured that authorities would examine every aspect of the incident to establish what went wrong. He stressed that protecting citizens’ lives and property remained the police’s foremost responsibility and said necessary legal action would follow the investigation.
The tragic incident raised serious questions about crowd management, entry arrangements and safety measures at large public gatherings organised around social media personalities.
