LAHORE – A petition challenging the extension of the detention of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s three sisters has been filed in the Lahore High Court, questioning the legality of an October 7 notification.
According to local media reports, Shahraiz and Sakina Niazi filed the petition through their lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umar, naming the home secretary, deputy commissioner and other officials as respondents.
The petitioners contended that the initial 30-day detention period had already expired when the deputy commissioner issued the extension notification on October 7. They argued that the subsequent extension was unlawful.
The petition also alleged that the three women had been denied access to their family members and legal counsel.
The petitioners requested the court to declare the October 7 detention extension notification illegal. The court’s response to the petition was not immediately available.
