LAHORE – Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on Wednesday resigned as a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The senior judge has sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval.
The resignation comes a day after he was posted to the Rawalpindi bench after a reshuffle at the high court.
It is recalled he was posted to LHC from the Islamabad High Court (LHC) in April this year and stationed at its main seat in Lahore. However, despite his seniority, he was not included in any division bench.
Justice Kayani had earlier held the position of senior puisne judge at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and was anticipated to become its chief justice. However, the transfer of Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar from LHC, alongside two judges from the Sindh and Balochistan high courts, led Kayani to contest the inter-court transfers through legal proceedings.
However, the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court upheld the transfers.
After being transferred to LHC, Justice Kayani’s seniority was revised, placing him at number 12 on the court’s seniority roster.
This is a developing story…
