Deaf Individuals to Receive Culinary Training Under New Initiative

Deaf Individuals To Receive Culinary Training Under New Initiative

The National Foodpreneur Programme has been launched to equip 10 deaf individuals with professional skills to pursue careers in the hospitality industry.

The three-month programme will provide hands-on training in various cuisines, food hygiene, safety, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles, and professional kitchen operations.

The initiative aims to promote a more inclusive and accessible food and hospitality sector by expanding career opportunities and supporting greater economic independence for persons with disabilities.

National Foods Limited has partnered with ConnectHear to launch the Professional Culinary Training initiative for deaf people.

Sarah Dawood, Head of Corporate Reputation at National Foods Limited, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusion, socioeconomic empowerment and community development by creating opportunities for aspiring chefs, including persons with disabilities.

Azima Dhanjee, CEO and Co-founder of ConnectHear, said accessible training, sign language instruction and trained teachers would help the participants acquire professional skills and improve their employment prospects.
