Bop Delivers Robust 9 Month Performance As Operating Profit Surges 34 Advances Grow 28

LAHORE – Bank of Punjab (BOP) reported a 34% year-on-year increase in operating profit before provisions and gains for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, alongside expanding lending, stronger core revenues and a Rs15.6 billion equity injection from the Government of Punjab.

The bank’s Board of Directors reviewed and approved the unaudited financial results at a meeting held on October 26, 2026. Continuing the growth recorded during the first half of the year, BOP posted higher earnings across its main business segments. Gross advances increased 28%, while average current deposits rose 25%, supporting the bank’s efforts to expand lending and strengthen its funding base.

The results come amid several institutional developments, including a long-term credit rating upgrade to AAA, in-principle approval for an overseas wholesale banking unit in Bahrain and three awards recognising its financial inclusion initiatives.

Stronger Core Earnings Drive Profit Growth

BOP’s operating profit before provisions and gains reached Rs34.42 billion during the nine-month period, up 34% from a year earlier, as growth in interest income and non-markup revenue strengthened its earnings base.

Net interest income increased 19% to Rs69.40 billion, while non-markup income excluding gains rose 47% to Rs18.04 billion.

According to the bank, the revenue performance reflected its balance sheet management, expansion of non-funded income streams and efforts to develop a more diversified revenue base.

Higher core earnings, supported by expense controls, lifted profit before tax to Rs30.46 billion, a 15% increase over the corresponding period last year. Profit after tax rose 22% to Rs14.53 billion.

The bank reported a 3.03% improvement in its cost-to-income ratio excluding gains, attributing the improvement to greater productivity, cost optimisation and operational discipline.

BOP said the combination of stronger revenues, higher profitability and improved efficiency demonstrated progress towards a more competitive and financially resilient banking franchise.

Lending Expands 28% as Current Deposits Strengthen

Gross advances increased 28% year-on-year to Rs1,073 billion, reflecting an expansion in BOP’s lending business and its continued financing of economic activity.

Despite a broadly stable overall balance sheet, the bank increased current deposits by 16% year-on-year. Average current deposits grew 25% compared with the same period in 2025.

BOP said the increase in low-cost deposits supported its strategy to improve the funding mix, enhance funding efficiency and establish a stronger base for sustainable profitability.

At September 30, 2026, total assets stood at Rs2,456 billion, while total deposits amounted to Rs1,928 billion.

The bank said the upgrade reflected its stronger financial profile and institutional resilience.

In a move towards international expansion, BOP secured in-principle approval from the State Bank of Pakistan to establish an Overseas Wholesale Banking Unit in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The proposed unit is intended to create opportunities for cross-border business and strengthen the bank’s regional connectivity.

BOP also received three accolades at the Pakistan Banking Awards 2026, recognising its work in Agriculture Inclusion, SME Banking and Women’s Inclusion.

According to the bank, the honours extended its record of consecutive awards across key banking segments and reflected its continuing focus on financial inclusion, stronger market standing and sustainable growth.

Its strategy includes deeper customer engagement, a broader range of banking services and sustainable growth built around long-term customer relationships. Technology, digital innovation and operational improvements remain central to plans to enhance customer experience, improve service delivery and develop a more efficient and agile banking model.

The bank also intends to strengthen its core banking capabilities, maintain prudent risk management and pursue emerging opportunities in domestic and international markets.
