Makerspace Punjab Teams Up With Three Universities For Tech Innovation

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three universities under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Initiative, Makerspace Punjab, to promote research, IT hardware innovation and collaboration between academia and industry.

The agreements were signed with COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, the University of Education, Lahore, and the University of the Punjab, Lahore.

PITB Director General e-Governance Sajid Latif signed the MoUs alongside COMSATS Lahore Campus Director Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, University of Education Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwar Chaudhry, and Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali.

PITB Director Skills Development, Ahmad Islam Syan, university representatives and members of the Makerspace Punjab team also attended the signing ceremony.

Under the partnerships, students, researchers and faculty members will gain access to specialised laboratories, technical guidance, training and prototyping facilities. The initiative will also support collaborative research, entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing and the development of practical technology solutions aligned with industry needs.

PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf said Makerspace Punjab, implemented by PITB on behalf of the Punjab government, aims to strengthen the province’s IT hardware innovation ecosystem through product design, rapid prototyping and the local development of technology products.

He added that the partnerships would help cultivate an innovation-driven culture, nurture young talent and accelerate indigenous technology development in Punjab.
