MULTAN – At least five people were killed when a speeding car crashed on Bosan Road in Multan, struck a roadside wall and caught fire, the rescue officials said on Monday.
The rescue officials said that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed. The car first rammed into a road divider before smashing through a wall along the road and plunging into an empty plot.
The vehicle overturned after leaving the road and subsequently caught fire, trapping its occupants inside. The impact was so severe that all five people travelling in the car died at the scene, officials said.
Rescue teams reached the site following the incident and initiated emergency operations. However, none of the occupants could be saved.
The officials said three of the deceased were young men who belonged to Shujaabad, a town near Multan. The identities of the remaining two victims had not been established at the time of the initial report.
The bodies were recovered from the wreckage and shifted for further legal formalities, while efforts to identify the unidentified victims were underway.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with overspeeding, particularly on busy roads where drivers can lose control of their vehicles within seconds.
Road accidents caused by excessive speed can have devastating consequences, especially when vehicles overturn or catch fire following a collision.
The rescue officials routinely urge motorists to observe speed limits, remain attentive while driving and take extra precautions to avoid accidents.
Further details about the exact circumstances of the crash, including whether any other vehicle was involved, were not immediately available.
The authorities are likely to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the precise cause of the accident.
The three victims of the accident identified as residents of Shujaabad, while the identification of the other two remains pending.
