Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday announced a revised compensation package for police personnel martyred or injured in the line of duty, along with additional financial assistance for their families.
Under the new policy, compensation for families of martyred constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), sub-inspectors (SIs) and inspectors has increased from Rs11 million to Rs17 million.
Families of deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) will receive Rs25 million, while compensation for senior officers will range from Rs30 million to Rs35 million, depending on rank.
The government has raised compensation for permanent disability from Rs500,000 to Rs5 million and for severe injuries from Rs100,000 to Rs1.5 million.
The revised scheme replaces plot allotments with cash payments. Families of martyred constables and head constables will receive Rs18 million instead of a five-marla plot, while families of ASIs, SIs and inspectors will get Rs25 million in place of a seven-marla plot.
The amount for families of DSPs and ASPs has been set at Rs30 million, while families of SPs and higher-ranking officers will receive Rs70 million instead of a one-kanal plot.
Kundi also announced compensation of Rs5 million if a police officer’s spouse or children are killed in a terrorist attack, and Rs3 million if the victim is a parent or sibling.
For officers killed off duty, compensation will range from Rs4 million to Rs7 million, depending on rank. The government will also provide Rs1 million towards the weddings of daughters of martyred personnel and establish an education fund for their children, including those pursuing studies abroad.
The governor said police salaries had been increased to make them more competitive with other provinces. He added that authorities had been directed to expedite recruitment against 17,000 vacant positions in the provincial police force.
Kundi urged federal and provincial authorities to work together for peace and prosperity in the province.
