An Islamabad court on Monday granted police five-day physical remand of Muhammad Noman, the prime suspect in an alleged travel fraud case.
IIUI graduate Laiba Ijaz reportedly died by suicide after discovering that her travel documents were fake.
Laiba’s body was found hanging beside a road in Sector G-10, within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station.
According to the FIR registered on October 10, Laiba’s father, Muhammad Ijaz, accused Noman and a woman identified as Aiza of being responsible for his daughter’s death.
The complaint alleges that Noman promised to arrange a US study visa for Laiba for Rs9.3 million. The complainant said he paid Rs2.1 million in cash, while Laiba transferred another Rs2.9 million to the suspect’s bank account.
Noman allegedly provided fake travel documents and a forged receipt showing a $20,000 transaction. When confronted, he reportedly stopped answering calls, while Aiza allegedly continued demanding additional money from Laiba, causing her severe mental distress.
Police arrested Noman from Islamabad’s H-13 sector. Investigators are examining evidence to establish his alleged involvement in the case.
