Independence anniversary highlights enduring bonds with Pakistan

 

Islamabad came alive with an atmosphere of friendship and fraternity as a grand ceremony was held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Tajikistan, celebrating the deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood, goodwill and cooperation that continue to unite Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Tourism Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and Senator Talha Mahmood joined the gathering as distinguished guests.

The ceremony was hosted by Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan Yusuf Sharifzoda, who extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, distinguished guests, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials and representatives of civil society.

The gathering reflected the warmth of the long standing Pakistan-Tajikistan relationship, with the occasion serving as a vibrant expression of shared traditions, mutual respect and a common commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in the years ahead. The ceremony featured a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Ambassador Yusuf Sharifzoda and other dignitaries jointly cut the commemorative cake, symbolizing the longstanding friendship and close ties between the two brotherly countries.

The event was attended by a large number of diplomats, senior government officials, representatives of various institutions, members of the business community and civil society, reflecting the broad-based and growing people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Tajikistan. Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the historical, cultural and civilization linkages between the two countries and reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in multiple areas. They emphasized that Pakistan and Tajikistan enjoy close and cordial relations, supported by shared cultural values, historical connections and mutual interests. The two sides have been working to expand cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, energy, transport and regional connectivity.

The speakers noted that the geographical proximity of Pakistan and Tajikistan provides significant opportunities for expanding economic and commercial linkages. Greater connectivity between the two countries, they said, could help facilitate trade and promote people-to-people contacts while contributing to regional economic integration. Particular emphasis was laid on the potential for expanding cooperation in tourism, with both countries possessing rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes and historical sites capable of attracting visitors from across the region.

He reaffirmed Tajikistan’s desire to further deepen bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation with Pakistan. The ceremony provided an opportunity for diplomats, officials and members of civil society to celebrate Tajikistan’s national day while reaffirming the spirit of friendship and brotherhood that characterizes relations between the two countries.
