LARKANA – Five people, including a father and his three sons, were killed in a firing incident in Ratodero, Larkana district, the local police said on Saturday.
The police said that the incident occurred on the Jacobabad Road in Ratodero when unidentified armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire on the victims.
The firing left five people dead, including a man and his three sons. A passerby was also caught in the gunfire and died on the spot, police said.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately known. The police officials said the assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Following the incident, the police launched a search operation in the area and sealed routes to prevent the suspects from escaping. The checkpoints were also established at various locations as efforts continued to trace and arrest those involved in the attack.
The police teams were dispatched to different areas to collect evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials said further investigation was under way.
The bodies of the victims were shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police said the identities of all five victims were being confirmed.
The incident caused panic among residents and motorists in the area, with law enforcement personnel deployed around the crime scene.
The police officials said they were investigating all possible aspects of the incident and would proceed against the suspects once identified.
No group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The local authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as the search for the armed assailants continues.
