DUBAI – Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi will not attend the medal ceremony for the men’s cricket event at Asian Games 2026 following the final between traditional rivals Pakistan and India at Kurogi Sports Park on Saturday, the TV reports suggested.
Pakistan and India are facing each other in the men’s cricket final of the Asian Games 2026 today.
According to the ACC, President Mohsin Naqvi will miss the final-day proceedings due to prior commitments.
In a statement, the cricket body said its president would be unable to travel to the Asian Games because of engagements scheduled earlier.
The ACC said Naqvi conveyed his best wishes to all teams competing for medals at the Games.
Naqvi’s decision to skip the ceremony comes amid previous instances involving Indian teams and trophy presentations. After India won the men’s T20 Asia Cup last year, the team reportedly declined to receive the trophy and medals from Naqvi, who is not only ACC president but also chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The refusal initially delayed the closing ceremony, which eventually concluded without the winning Indian team receiving the trophy.
A similar incident occurred last Sunday following the final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup. India defeated defending champions Sri Lanka to win the title but reportedly declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi.
