ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army is witnessing change at top, with nine Major Generals promoted to rank of Lieutenant General. The promotions come alongside key corps and senior staff postings, setting the stage for a major reshuffle across the Army’s higher command structure.
Major Generals move to three-star rank
- Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary — Artillery, 86 PMA Long Course; associated with Pakistan Military Academy.
- Major General Chaudhary Amir Ajmal — 86 PMA Long Course; Vice Chief of General Staff.
- Major General Asad — Army Air Defence, 86 PMA Long Course; associated with SIFC.
- Major General Bilal — 86 PMA Long Course.
- Major General Wajid Aziz — 86 PMA Long Course; Director General Military Intelligence.
- Major General Muhammad Umer Bashir — 86 PMA Long Course; Vice Chief of General Staff.
- Major General Muhammad Imtinan Babar — Engineers, 87 PMA Long Course; GOC 45 Engineer Division.
- Major General Nadeem Ashraf — Artillery, 87 PMA Long Course; Weapons & Equipment Directorate.
The reported elevation of the nine officers comes as the Army continues to realign senior appointments following wider changes in Pakistan’s higher military command structure.
Alongside the reported promotions, a separate list of senior postings has emerged, pointing to changes at several important corps headquarters. Lieutenant General Inayat has reportedly been assigned command of XII Corps, Quetta, while Lieutenant General Amir Najam has reportedly been posted as Commander II Corps, Multan.
The reported reshuffle also places Lieutenant General Shakirullah Khattak at I Corps, Mangla, while Lieutenant General Umer Bashir is reportedly set to command IV Corps, Lahore.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Naeem has reportedly been appointed Commander XI Corps, Peshawar.
At the General Headquarters level, Lieutenant General Imdad has reportedly been appointed Inspector General Training & Evaluation, while Lieutenant General Noor Wali is reported to be taking over as Quartermaster General.
Lieutenant General Umer Bukhari has also reportedly been appointed Chief of General Staff, a key position within the Army’s senior command structure.
The reported appointments have not all been formally confirmed in the material currently available, and therefore remain subject to official notification.
The reported promotions come against the backdrop of major changes to Pakistan’s higher military command structure during 2025-26.
Earlier this year, Lieutenant General Aamer Raza was promoted to four-star rank and appointed Commander of the National Strategic Command, marking the establishment of a new senior strategic command position.
