ISLAMABAD – Local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly in Pakistan registered a significant decline in August 2026, according to a report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The report stated that 1.66 million mobile phones were manufactured or assembled locally during August. Production fell 57% month-on-month and 14% year-on-year.

According to the PTA, the monthly decline came after relatively high production in July.

During the first eight months of 2026, a total of 18.66 million mobile phones were manufactured or assembled locally, compared with 19.77 million units during the corresponding period last year, representing a decline of around 6%.

Mobile phone imports also declined during August. Imports fell 69% year-on-year and 27% month-on-month to 80,000 units, according to the report.

Local assembly met around 95% of domestic mobile phone demand in August, while locally manufactured and assembled devices accounted for approximately 87% of total demand during the first eight months of the year.

In terms of local production during the first eight months of 2026, VGO Tel led the manufacturers with 2.45 million units. Infinix followed with 1.96 million units, while itel, Tecno and Samsung recorded 1.56 million, 1.14 million and 1.01 million units, respectively.

The report further showed that Vivo and Nokia each recorded 970,000 locally assembled units, while Club Mobile assembled 720,000 units, X Mobile 700,000 units and QMobile 630,000 units during the period.
