KARACHI – More than 50 women who were allegedly invited to a farmhouse in Karachi’s Gadap City area for employment were deprived of their mobile phones after an event organiser reportedly fled with the devices.
Reports said the women had been called to the farmhouse for what they believed was a job opportunity.
Farmhouse manager Ashar Ansari said in a video statement that a booking had been made for an event involving between 50 and 55 women. He said the booking was made by a man identified as Waqas, who did not arrive at the farmhouse. Instead, a man identified as Asif or Salman arrived with a woman.
Ansari said he later asked for payment for the farmhouse booking and decoration-related arrangements. He said he contacted the organisers after the agreed time had passed and was told that the person responsible for the payment was on his way.
One of the affected women said in a video statement that they had been brought to the farmhouse after being offered employment.
A video of Salman also emerged, showing him apparently guiding women who were seated in a vehicle.
Following the incident, Gadap police recorded statements from the affected women and registered a case.
Police subsequently arrested Waqas, who allegedly booked the farmhouse, and Nargis, a woman accused of assisting in bringing the women to the location. Raids are being conducted to arrest other suspect.
