ISLAMABAD – Some relief for taxpayers, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026, giving people more time to complete their paperwork without the immediate pressure of the September 30 cut-off.
Taxpayers who were required to file their returns by September 30, 2026, will now have an additional 15 days, with the new deadline set for October 15, 2026.
The extension was announced through FBR Circular No. 3 of 2026-27 following requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations for additional time to complete the filing process.
The decision is likely to ease concerns among taxpayers who were finding it difficult to finalise their returns before the original deadline. The extra two weeks will allow them more time to prepare their information, complete the required formalities and submit their returns.
FBR granted the extension under the authority provided by Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
With the deadline now moved to October 15, 2026, taxpayers covered by the extension can take advantage of the additional time to complete and submit their Tax Year 2026 income tax returns and fulfil their applicable filing obligations.
