LAHORE – LESCO consumers, already struggling with sky-high electricity bills, are now facing another unwanted situation as recovery teams of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) have reportedly started visiting consumers’ homes to demand payment of outstanding bills.
The sudden visits, demands for immediate payment and warnings of electricity disconnections have triggered concern among consumers, with many questioning whether LESCO has tightened its recovery policy.
Several consumers complained that LESCO teams visited their homes demanding that outstanding bills be paid immediately, warning that failure to do so could result in the electricity connection being disconnected. One local resident said recovery officials claimed that senior authorities had issued new and stricter instructions regarding bill collection and disconnections.
Some users blasted LESCO teams for contacting them again on phone and WhatsApp to pay bills at earliest.
The situation intensified over crucial question, Can LESCO disconnect a consumer’s electricity after just one unpaid monthly bill? According to a July 2026 report, LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt said the company was treating consumers who had failed to pay even a single monthly bill as defaulters, whereas the previous practice was generally to disconnect connections after two consecutive unpaid bills.
As per NEPRA’s Consumer Service Manual-2025, if a consumer failed to pay the current month’s bill but has no previous outstanding dues, the connection should not simply be disconnected, and that a second-month bill should carry a seven-day notice before disconnection action can be taken.
The issue has become particularly sensitive because recovery teams are reportedly visiting consumers directly at their homes. Some residents called this intimidating, saying they were pressured to clear their bills immediately or faced warnings that their meters could be removed or electricity disconnected.
The matter also reached Lahore Commissioner’s Office, where complaints regarding LESCO’s recovery practices were reportedly raised with the company’s officials. For many households, the arrival of recovery teams at their doors has added another layer of pressure to an already difficult financial situation.
LESCO rejects allegations of harassment LESCO, however, has rejected the impression that it is deliberately harassing consumers. LESCO is operating under NEPRA’s rules and its field teams are informing consumers about the importance of paying electricity bills on time to maintain uninterrupted supply.
The company also rejected allegations that it deliberately issues inflated bills. At the same time, LESCO acknowledges that human or technical errors can occur in meter readings and billing. Consumers who believe their bills contain an error or an unusual increase have been advised to approach the relevant LESCO office before the payment deadline so that the matter can be reviewed and corrected.
The aggressive recovery campaign comes as electricity distribution companies face continued pressure to improve collections, reduce losses and address financial problems within the power sector. LESCO has been stepping up recovery operations and assigning officials to monitor defaulters and collection activities across different circles.
