LAHORE – Police have arrested an “InDrive” rickshaw driver for uploading the mobile phone number of a woman rider to a matrimonial app after an heated exchange during the ride.
According to the woman’s complaint submitted at the DIG Operations’ open court, she had booked an InDrive ride when the driver allegedly behaved rudely and inappropriately during the journey. She said that after she objected to his conduct, the driver threatened to publicise her mobile number on social media and misuse it.
The complainant stated that the following day, her number was circulated online, after which she began receiving repeated calls from strangers. She said the incident caused her severe distress and raised concerns about her privacy and personal safety.
The woman told police that she had retained evidence related to the alleged harassment, including the driver’s mobile number, screenshots of a Facebook account allegedly created under his name, messages and other relevant material.
Based on the complaint, police at Nishtar Colony Police Station registered a case after an initial assessment found a prima facie offence. The police record cites Sections 354, 509(ii) and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code and states that the case was referred for investigation.
According to the DIG Operations spokesperson, the suspected driver, identified as Latif, was arrested following registration of the case.
Police said harassment of women and misuse of personal information would not be tolerated, adding that complaints from citizens were being investigated and acted upon according to law.
