NEW YORK – Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan as part of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The meeting focused on the ongoing arrangements for convening an urgent meeting of the chiefs of staff of the three countries.
The proposed meeting will discuss ways to support Saudi Arabia in accordance with the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence.
The agreement stipulates that aggression against any one of the participating parties will be considered an attack against all parties.
The three foreign ministers also discussed arrangements for the upcoming chiefs of staff meeting, which is intended to address matters related to joint defence cooperation and support for the Kingdom under the agreement.
The meeting reviewed the progress achieved regarding the establishment of the General Secretariat, the committees, and the working groups emerging from the Agreement, alongside the preparations for commencing its operations.
The ministers affirmed during the meeting their condemnation in the strongest terms of the sinful attacks that targeted Mecca, the Honored, and the civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while commending the vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces and their capability to defend the Kingdom’s security, and affirming the Kingdom’s right to take the measures it deems appropriate to defend its security in accordance with Article (51) of the United Nations Charter.
As the ministers discussed the current situation in the region, they emphasized the importance of consolidating the principles of international law, fostering good neighborliness, and mutual respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, while ensuring the security and freedom of maritime navigation.
The ministers reaffirmed their resolve to continue working toward achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region, supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation, and advancing toward reaching peaceful solutions to the ongoing crises.
