BAHAWALPUR – A shocking case involving AI, a secret home laboratory and alleged plot against family member reported from Bahawalpur, where National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab arrested a 17-year-old student.
The teenager reportedly attempted to harm his father with a poisonous substance before turning to an AI system for further guidance after the first attempt failed. The case reportedly came to light after NCCIA received intelligence from abroad regarding the teenager’s online activities. Acting on the information, the agency launched an investigation and subsequently arrested the student in Bahawalpur.
Investigators discovered that the teenager established small laboratory inside his home, where he conducted chemical experiments. Authorities are also examining reports that his interest in preparing poisonous substances was influenced by the popular crime series Breaking Bad. According to investigators, chemical materials had allegedly been obtained through online sources, including suppliers linked to Australia and Islamabad.
The teenager allegedly made an initial attempt to poison his father, but the attempt did not produce the intended result. Investigators say he subsequently turned to artificial intelligence in search of additional guidance related to the alleged plot.
The investigation reportedly began after information concerning the teenager’s online activity was shared with Pakistani authorities from abroad. NCCIA Punjab Director Hissam bin Iqbal subsequently ordered action, leading to the operation in Bahawalpur.
During the operation, officials reportedly seized chemical materials, laboratory equipment and digital devices believed to be relevant to the investigation. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific substances or instructions allegedly involved.
The case highlighted growing concerns surrounding the misuse of artificial intelligence by minors, particularly when AI tools are used to seek potentially harmful information.
Investigators are continuing to examine the teenager’s digital activity, the alleged poisoning attempt, the source of the chemical materials and other evidence gathered during the operation. The teenager remains under investigation, and the allegations will be subject to due legal process.
