ISLAMABAD – Good news for bike and rickshaw owners struggling to keep their tanks running as the government eased PM fuel relief scheme just 48 hours after its rollout, removing the 5-litre minimum purchase rule.
The decision was taken at a National Steering Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, following a review of the scheme and early public feedback. Under the new rules, eligible motorcycle, rickshaw and three-wheeler owners will get a Rs500 fuel token every week, and they can now use it to buy petrol in any quantity — even if they cannot afford five litres at once.
There’s another major change: the vehicle age limit has been increased from 15 to 20 years, meaning more owners of older bikes and three-wheelers can qualify. For cars up to 800cc, however, nothing changes. Eligible owners will continue receiving 10 litres every 10 days, with three tokens per month.
The government has also warned petrol pumps: not a single rupee can be deducted from the Rs500 token, and no service fee can be charged to the customer.

To keep payments moving, the State Bank of Pakistan will submit reports twice daily — at 11am and 7pm — while rejected transactions will be investigated and resolved.
And for people living in areas where the internet barely works, including parts of AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, KP and remote rural areas, alternative arrangements are being prepared.
