LAHORE – A student from China and nine from Sri Lanka graduated from Government College University (GCU) Lahore, where a special ceremony was held on the main campus to confer degrees on the international students.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry awarded the degrees, highlighting the university’s commitment to inclusive, accessible, and high-quality global education. The nine Sri Lankan graduates earned Bachelor of Science degrees across key disciplines, including Microbiology, Chemistry, and Computer Science, while the Chinese scholar was awarded a Master of Science (MS) in Entrepreneurship and SME Management.
Speaking at the ceremony, the graduating international scholars expressed deep appreciation for the academic mentorship, institutional support, and cultural hospitality they experienced during their tenure in Pakistan.
Praising her faculty mentors and reflecting on her time in Lahore, Ms. Sun Huimin, the MS graduate from China, shared her fond memories of campus life. “My experience in Pakistan has been wonderful, and my supervisor was exceptional. I am sad to be leaving Pakistan, but I sincerely hope to return one day to visit this historic institution again,” she remarked.
The Sri Lankan graduates also reflected on their transformative academic journeys. Ms. Fathima Rumana, a BS Microbiology graduate, credited the university with fostering her personal and professional growth. “I had a very good experience in Pakistan as well as at GCU Lahore. I am leaving with a heavy heart because I will miss this university immensely. It has made me much stronger, and I am deeply grateful to the administration and faculty for helping me become a better person,” she stated. Her colleague, Ms. Sasna Rashad, who also completed her BS in Microbiology, echoed similar sentiments.
Addressing the graduates, Vice Chancellor Prof. Chaudhry extended his heartiest congratulations, officially welcoming them into the global network of Ravian alumni. He reminded the outgoing scholars that they are now lifetime custodians of a prestigious, 163-year-old academic legacy that has shaped world leaders, scientists, and literary luminaries.
Highlighting GCU’s commitment to accessible higher education, Prof. Chaudhry confirmed that the university maintains a strict fee parity policy, charging international students the exact same tuition fees as local Pakistani students.
To further accommodate the growing international student body, the Vice Chancellor announced major infrastructure developments, including dedicated residential facilities. He revealed that a separate hostel block for female foreign students has been finalized and will become operational by the upcoming semester, while a dedicated hostel for male foreign students is scheduled for completion within the next three to four months.
Citing gender empowerment and student diversity as core pillars of the Ravian tradition, Prof. Chaudhry urged the graduating class to act as international ambassadors for GCU and carry the proud Ravian spirit to their home countries.
