LAHORE – A petrol subsidy scheme is all set to start nationwide at 11:59pm on September 16 to provide relief to motorcyclists, rickshaws and owners of cars with engine capacity up to 800cc.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special petrol relief scheme offering a Rs100 per litre discount amid rising fuel prices due to Middle East tensions.
Under the scheme, eligible two- and three-wheelers will receive the Rs100 per litre relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month, while owners of cars up to 800cc will be eligible for the relief on up to 30 litres per month.
Who is Eligible for the Rs100 Petrol Subsidy?
As per the basic details, motorcycles owners can get up to 20 litres of petrol per month at the discounted rate.
Rickshaws and Qingqi vehicles: Up to 20 litres of petrol per month.
Cars up to 800cc: Up to 30 litres of petrol per month.
However, a notice displayed at a petrol pump in Lahore has provided further details about the eligibility criteria.
According to the notice, motorcycles registered in 2011 or later are eligible for the Rs100-per-litre subsidy.
It further states that cars with an engine capacity of up to 800cc, registered in 2006 or later, qualify for the relief.
Currently, there are no official details about this requirement.
Three Steps to Avail Rs100 Per Litre Discount
Step 1: Register Through SMS
Eligible applicants must first register their vehicle through SMS.
Send the following information to 9771:
REG <CNIC> <Plate No> <Province Code> <Registration Date>`
The applicant needs to:
1. Type `REG` and give a space.
2. Enter the 13-digit CNIC number and give a space.
3. Enter the vehicle registration number and give a space.
4. Enter the relevant province or territory code.
5. Enter the vehicle registration date in DDMMYYYY format.
The codes are:
– I — Islamabad
– A — AJK
– G — GB
– S — Sindh
– P — Punjab
– K — KPK
– B — Balochistan
There are no SMS charges. Once registration is completed, the applicant will receive a confirmation message.
Step 2: Get a Petrol Relief Token
After completing registration, applicants must obtain a token before visiting a petrol pump to claim the relief.
Simply type:
`TOK` and send it to 9771.
The 10-digit token received in response will remain valid for the next 10 days. After the validity period expires, a new token will have to be obtained.
Step 3: Get Petrol at the Discounted Rate
At the petrol pump, the applicant must show the 10-digit token number to the pump representative.
After verification, eligible applicants can obtain petrol with an immediate Rs100 per litre discount, subject to the applicable monthly fuel limit.
