Police Van Targeted In Peshawar Ied Attack Two Officers Hurt

Two police personnel suffered minor injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police van close to Pir Zakorhi Bridge, near the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway toll plaza on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Police, the blast injured the van’s driver and a constable, while the vehicle also sustained damage. Both injured officers were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Officials said the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) reached the scene soon after the explosion. Peshawar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Farhan Khan said the blast was caused by a roadside IED concealed in the green belt adjacent to the road.

He added that the BDU launched a search of the surrounding area to ensure no additional explosive devices had been planted. The injured officers were reported to be in stable condition, having sustained only minor scratches.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed inspected the blast site before visiting the injured personnel at Lady Reading Hospital. Police identified the injured officers as constables Haider Ali and Yousaf.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just days earlier, a terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Hangu district killed nine police officials, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), and injured 28 others.

On July 29, another joint security operation in the mountainous areas of Swat’s Kabal and Matta tehsils resulted in the deaths of a policeman and four members of a village defence committee, while six militants were killed.
