Iran has rejected a proposal by Oman to establish joint regional management of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the media reports, a senior Iranian official stated on Wednesday that the initiative has no prospect of being implemented.
The official claimed that the United States and Saudi Arabia were pressuring Oman to promote “unrealistic” proposals concerning the strategically important waterway.
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its naval forces intercepted and stopped three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian media reports, the vessels ignored repeated warnings and continued navigating along what the Guards described as an unsafe and unauthorized route.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted the IRGC Navy as saying the three tankers were struck and forced to halt after failing to comply with its directives, despite the recent easing of hostilities between Tehran and Washington.
