TEHRAN/WASHINGTON – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it launched ballistic missiles at a US military base and a US Central Command (CENTCOM) facility in Jordan, while US officials said all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted.
The IRGC said it had targeted the American military installation and CENTCOM facility with ballistic missiles. It also claimed that three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were detained after allegedly ignoring Iranian warnings.
US media, citing military officials, reported that Iran fired multiple ballistic missiles towards US military bases in Jordan and other American positions in the Middle East. According to the US military, all of the missiles were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, and American forces remain on high alert across the region
Meanwhile, the US officials accused Iran of making what they described as “unnecessary demands” regarding shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. They said the Iranian proposals had been rejected by Oman, the United States, and the wider international community.
The officials added that the agreement currently under discussion is intended solely to improve coordination and does not include any taxes or transit fees.
The latest developments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with both sides continuing to exchange accusations over regional security and maritime navigation.
