Faisal Zahid Malik appreciates Austria Embassy cooperation with govt, business community, and media
Austria and Pakistan are looking to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy and tourism as both countries seek to strengthen over seven decades of diplomatic relations, Austrian Ambassador Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera said on Friday.
Speaking during an informal meeting with Pakistan Observer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Faisal Zahid Malik at the Austrian Embassy, the Ambassador said relations between the two countries had remained cordial and were based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue and expanding people-to-people contacts.
According to the Ambassador, the recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Austria marked an important step in strengthening bilateral engagement and reflected the commitment of both governments to further deepen political and economic cooperation.
Mr Kutschera said Austrian companies had developed a strong reputation in Pakistan through their work in engineering, renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects. He noted that Austrian firms had contributed to the country’s hydropower sector over several decades by providing technology and engineering expertise for major hydroelectric projects.
He said there was also considerable potential for collaboration in environmental protection, particularly in waste management and other sustainable technologies, areas where Austria had accumulated extensive experience. Strengthening cooperation in these sectors, he added, could support Pakistan’s efforts to promote sustainable economic development and improve environmental management.

Referring to tourism, the ambassador described the Malam Jabba Ski Resort in Swat as a notable example of successful cooperation between the two countries. Developed with Austrian expertise, the resort remains Pakistan’s first modern skiing destination and demonstrates the scope for future collaboration in tourism infrastructure, he said.
Mr Kutschera said Austria was prepared to share its experience and technology to support the development of Pakistan’s tourism sector. He added that Pakistan’s mountain ranges and natural landscapes continued to attract Austrian mountaineers and adventure tourists, highlighting the country’s potential as a destination for international visitors.
The ambassador also referred to the recent Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, saying Austrian companies had participated in significant numbers. According to him, Austria had the third-largest foreign business delegation at the forum, reflecting growing interest among Austrian businesses in opportunities offered by Pakistan’s economy.
He expressed confidence that increased interaction between the private sectors of both countries would help promote trade, encourage investment and create new avenues for cooperation in innovation and technology.
The ambassador said that strengthening commercial ties, alongside closer collaboration in energy, infrastructure and tourism, would further reinforce the longstanding relationship between Austria and Pakistan. He added that sustained engagement at the government, business and people-to-people levels would remain important for expanding bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
Pakistan and Austria established diplomatic relations more than 70 years ago and have maintained cooperation in a range of sectors, including trade, education, development and cultural exchanges. Officials from both countries have in recent years emphasized the need to expand economic engagement and explore new opportunities in renewable energy, environmental sustainability and investment.

Their conversation mainly focused on the growing cooperation between the two nations, the vital role of media and the business community in strengthening these relations.
Mr. Faisal appreciated the resolute cooperation of the Austria Embassy Islamabad with the Government of Pakistan, the business community, the media, and civil society, emphasizing that such efforts are essential for creating awareness and bringing the two nations closer.
Austrian Ambassador Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera also presented a souvenir to Mr Fasil Zahid Malik thanked for his visit.
