RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir hosted two members of the US House of Representatives at General Headquarters (GHQ), with discussions centering on regional security, defence cooperation and expanding Pakistan-US economic ties.
The visiting delegation, comprising Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Congressman Michael James of Washington, held wide-ranging talks with the Pakistani military leadership on issues of mutual interest, including the evolving regional security landscape, bilateral defence collaboration and prospects for deeper economic engagement.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir emphasized that Pakistan’s future growth is closely tied to economic development, increased trade and stronger regional connectivity. He highlighted the country’s ongoing structural reforms designed to create a more business-friendly environment, attract foreign investment and unlock Pakistan’s vast economic potential.
The military chief stressed that sustainable peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved through security measures alone, but require economic prosperity, enhanced connectivity and long-term development.
American lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s important role in maintaining regional stability and commended its economic resilience. Both sides also explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade, encourage private-sector investment and expand commercial cooperation, reflecting a shared interest in broadening the Pakistan-US partnership beyond traditional security cooperation.
The discussions underscored the growing importance of economic diplomacy in Pakistan-US relations, with both delegations expressing optimism about enhancing institutional links and creating new avenues for investment and business collaboration.
US lawmakers also thanked Pakistani military leadership for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting stronger economic, commercial and institutional ties between the two countries.
