MELBOURNE – Fourteen cities across Australia and New Zealand have submitted bids to host matches during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, which the two countries will co-host.
The Australian media reported that the tournament is scheduled to take place in October and November 2028. Tournament organisers had invited host city proposals from both countries, with a total of 14 cities expressing interest in staging matches.
However, organisers are expected to select only eight to ten host cities, meaning several applicants will miss out on hosting duties.
The reports said the final selection will be made in line with ICC guidelines, with a strong emphasis on logistical efficiency. The governing body is aiming to limit the number of venues to simplify tournament operations, scheduling, and travel across the two host nations.
Reducing the number of host cities is also expected to minimise travel for participating teams and fans, making the event more convenient and cost-effective.
Australian media further reported that the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is set to host the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028.
