LAHORE – The police have arrested three members of a gang accused of using online applications to lure citizens into honey traps before robbing them of cash and valuables.
The Ghaziabad Police carried out the operation using modern technology, apprehending the suspects who allegedly targeted a citizen on the night of July 21.
According to police, the victim was lured through an online app before being robbed of his mobile phone and cash.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran took notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of those involved.
A spokesperson for the DIG Operations identified the arrested suspects as Sonia Bibi, Azeem and Asif. Investigators said Sonia Bibi operated a fake online profile under the name “Jennifer Lopez” and used the account to contact people through an app, gaining their trust before inviting them to meet.
Police said victims were called to a house under the pretext of a meeting, where the gang’s accomplices allegedly assaulted, intimidated and robbed them of their mobile phones and cash.
According to investigators, the gang is suspected of carrying out more than 20 robberies using the same method.
A case has been registered against the arrested suspects, who have been handed over to the investigation wing for further interrogation. Police said raids are underway to arrest other members of the gang.
