TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized the seizure of another country’s assets, warning that such actions could have wider consequences, after US President Donald Trump said Iranian funds held by the United States would be used to cover shipping damage-related claims.
In a post on X, Araghchi wrote, “Seizing another nation’s assets to pay for unrelated future claims is an incendiary precedent.”

Araghchi’s comments came after Trump said Thursday in a post on Truth Social that Iranian money held and controlled by the United States would be used to pay for damage to ships, cargo and related assets.
“Any and all damages” would be covered by the funds “until further notice,” Trump wrote.
Trump said the costs could be “very substantial” but described the measure as “fair and equitable.”
On the other hand, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces successfully completed the 13th straight night of strikes against Iran.
CENTCOM targeted Iranian military command centers, drone storage facilities, communication networks, coastal surveillance sites, and maritime capabilities to further diminish the threat Iran poses to civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to an official statement.
The international waterway remains open for transit despite recent attacks from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Commercial vessels continue to freely navigate the strait with U.S. military support.
More than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently operating across the Middle East.
