LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan is mourning loss of Secretary General Ameer-ul-Azim, who passed away in Lahore after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The party confirmed the news in an official statement, saying that Ameer-ul-Azim breathed his last after enduring a long illness. His funeral prayers will be announced later.
His demise marks end of a decades-long political and organizational career, leaving void in Jamaat-e-Islami’s leadership as party workers and supporters across Pakistan mourn the loss of a veteran figure.
Azim was born in Lahore in 1958, and got MBA from the University of the Punjab and emerged as a prominent student leader, serving as Nazim-e-Aala of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba Pakistan during his student years.
A seasoned strategist and longtime party organizer, he also served for many years as Secretary Information of Jamaat-e-Islami before being appointed Secretary General in 2019 by then party chief Siraj-ul-Haq. In 2024, incumbent Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman reappointed him to the post following consultation with the party’s Central Shura.
