The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Tuesday that at least 12 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours.
According to the NDMA, the latest fatalities have pushed the province’s monsoon death toll to 35 since the start of the rainy season in late June, making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the hardest-hit province in the country this monsoon.
The authority said torrential rains and flash floods triggered the collapse of roofs and walls in several districts, including Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Tor Ghar and Kurram.
Official figures showed that those killed included six men, five children and one woman. In addition, 14 people sustained injuries, while 14 houses were damaged, one of which was destroyed.
Separately, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and refrain from visiting vulnerable tourist destinations as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect various parts of the province.
The PDMA said district administrations have been instructed to speed up relief activities and ensure immediate support for affected families. It added that Rescue 1122, the PDMA and other emergency agencies remain actively engaged in rescue and relief operations.
The authority also advised the public to stay away from high-risk areas, limit non-essential travel and strictly follow weather alerts and safety instructions issued by relevant authorities.
