BEIJING – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Shanghai on 2-day official visit, where Pakistan is set to take a landmark step in the global artificial intelligence landscape by becoming a founding member of the newly established World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO).
Dar will attend official signing ceremony of the organization’s founding agreement on July 16–17, formally signing the charter on behalf of Pakistan. The move positions Pakistan among the inaugural members of an international platform aimed at strengthening global cooperation in artificial intelligence.

As part of the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister will also participate in the opening ceremony of the 2026 World AI Conference on July 17, one of the world’s leading forums focused on AI innovation, governance, and international collaboration.
During his stay in Shanghai, Dar is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts to discuss regional developments, expand bilateral cooperation, and explore areas of mutual interest, with technology and emerging global challenges likely to feature prominently on the agenda.
Upon his arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was welcomed by the Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in China, Aijaz Khan, and Consul General in Shanghai, Shehzad Ahmad Khan.
Pakistan’s participation as a founding signatory of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization marks a significant diplomatic and technological milestone, underscoring Islamabad’s growing engagement in shaping the future of global AI cooperation.
