LAHORE – A judicial magistrate in Lahore has rejected the post-arrest bail application of television anchor Rehan Tariq in a blasphemy case registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
The hearing was held at the District Courts in Lahore, where Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides before dismissing the bail plea.
According to the defence counsel, Advocate Mian Daud, the offences invoked in the case are bailable in nature. He argued before the court that the allegations against his client did not constitute blasphemy and that the question cited in the case could not be interpreted as an act of religious insult.
The prosecution, representing the NCCIA, opposed the bail request, maintaining that the allegations warranted the accused’s continued detention during the investigation.
After considering the arguments presented by both parties, the court rejected Rehan Tariq’s post-arrest bail application.
The NCCIA had earlier registered the blasphemy case against the anchor. Further legal proceedings in the matter are expected to continue before the trial court.
