KARACHI – The police arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of Dr Akash outside a bank in Karachi’s Frere area, South Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza announced on Wednesday
DIG Asad Raza said the suspects were apprehended within 36 hours of the incident after investigators reconstructed the crime using extensive evidence.
He made this disclosure while addressing a press conference alongside CIA DIG Muqaddas Haider and other officials.
According to the police, Dr Akash had arrived at the bank when the suspects, who were already present at the scene, launched the robbery. One of the accused allegedly conducted surveillance and alerted his accomplices before the attack.
The DIG said investigators gathered details of the crime within 24 hours and reviewed more than 100 CCTV recordings during the investigation. The suspects reportedly used two motorcycles and a car to carry out the robbery.
Police said the three arrested suspects were taken into custody from the jurisdiction of Defence Police Station. According to the investigators, all three belong to the Hindu community.
The local authorities have recovered part of the stolen cash, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining amount and complete the investigation.
Dr Akash was shot and killed during the robbery outside a bank in Clifton, where assailants allegedly fled after snatching Rs2.5 million. Police said further investigations are in progress.
