Padel Sports Made Mandatory For Pakistan Cricketers During Long Training Camps

LAHORE – Pakistan’s national cricketers will now be required to play padel sports during long-duration training camps as part of a new initiative aimed at improving fitness and overall athletic performance.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has established dedicated padel facilities at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), allowing players to participate in the sport without leaving the training complex.

Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed said the decision was taken to provide players with a healthier and more engaging environment during extended camps.

“Padel is easy to play, enjoyable, and highly beneficial for fitness,” Javed said. “Previously, players had to travel elsewhere to play the sport, but now they can enjoy it alongside their cricket training.”

He added that playing padel every other day would be compulsory during long camps, with players expected to spend around 40 minutes on the court.

According to Javed, the sport enhances movement, agility, and overall fitness, making it particularly valuable for improving fielding skills.

He also revealed that the High Performance Centre is expanding its facilities further, with basketball courts and a recreational games room, including snooker and other indoor games, also planned.

Javed noted that leading athletes around the world regularly participate in sports beyond their primary discipline to improve fitness, coordination, and mental well-being, and Pakistan’s cricketers are being encouraged to adopt the same approach.
