Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha on Monday to offer condolences on the death of the former emir and Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to a statement issued by the Qatari Amiri Diwan, Sheikh Tamim received PM Shehbaz at Lusail Palace, where the Pakistani premier conveyed his sympathies over the passing of Sheikh Hamad.
Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Qatar earlier in the day on a one-day visit, accompanied by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, were also part of the delegation.
In a statement shared on X, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the visit was undertaken to personally convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to Qatar’s leadership and citizens following the death of Sheikh Hamad.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to the late Father Amir, praising his visionary leadership, statesmanship and lasting contributions to Qatar’s remarkable development as well as to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
The PMO said the prime minister also fondly recalled Sheikh Hamad’s close ties with Pakistan, highlighting his warmth, goodwill and the many visits he made to the country over the years.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Qatar during its time of mourning, Shehbaz Sharif prayed for the late leader’s elevated status in paradise and expressed hope that the royal family and the people of Qatar would be granted strength to endure their loss.
The statement added that Sheikh Tamim thanked PM Shehbaz, Nawaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and the Pakistani delegation for travelling to Doha to offer condolences in person. He described the gesture as a reflection of the deep-rooted brotherly relations shared by Pakistan and Qatar.
Earlier, the PMO said the Pakistani delegation was welcomed at Doha airport by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani.
The PMO noted that the visit underscored the longstanding and fraternal relationship between Pakistan and Qatar, as well as the close bonds shared by the two countries’ leaderships and peoples.
