Emphasizes extraordinary security measures at sensitive locations
Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against overcharging, overloading, and unfit public transport vehicles during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holidays across Punjab.
The Chief Minister instructed deputy commissioners and district police officers to ensure thorough inspections of buses and bus terminals. She ordered that official fare lists must be prominently displayed at every bus and bus stand to prevent passengers from being charged extra fares. Maryam Nawaz also directed authorities to cancel route permits of buses involved in overcharging and revoke licenses of bus terminals facilitating such violations.
She further ordered an immediate ban on transport vehicles operating without fitness certificates and stressed strict enforcement against passenger overloading. Authorities have also been directed to ensure the availability of cold drinking water for passengers at bus terminals. To address public complaints, the Punjab Transport Department has established a helpline, 1071, where citizens can report incidents of overcharging.
In addition, the Chief Minister ordered foolproof security arrangements across Punjab during Chand Raat and Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. She instructed officials to strictly implement security SOPs through-out the province and directed the installation of met-al detectors and walk-through gates at Eid prayer gatherings.
Maryam Nawaz also instructed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the Punjab government s security and sanitation arrangements for Eid. The Chief Minister ordered increased patrolling in markets on Chand Raat and directed the deployment of female police officers in busy commercial areas. She also instructed authorities to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City Authority for security operations.
She further ordered strict enforcement of the ban on banned organizations setting up camps for collecting sacrificial animal hides. District police officers were instructed to personally inspect and ensure compliance with the ban. Authorities were also directed to prevent the spread of hate material on social media and other platforms. Additionally, Maryam Nawaz ordered strict action against motorcyclists involved in one-wheeling and hooliganism during Eid holidays. During a briefing to the Chief Minister, Home Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi informed her about Eid security preparations. Officials stated that Eid prayers would be held at 38,507 locations across the province.
