BEIJING – Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan, saying China is ready to work closely with Islamabad on matters of mutual interests.
Speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing, PM Li Qiang praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and cooperation.
“We are ready to work together with Pakistan and discuss issues of mutual interest,” the Chinese premier said during the high-level talks held in the Chinese capital.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is on a four-day official visit to China, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two longtime allies. He noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
“Our elders laid the foundation of Pakistan-China friendship, and we are carrying forward that historic legacy,” Shehbaz Sharif said. He added that both countries remain committed to enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
The prime minister also expressed condolences over the loss of lives in a recent mine blast in China and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four-point peace proposal.
During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for peace in the Middle East and stressed the importance of collective international efforts to ensure regional stability. He said that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was in Tehran for peace efforts. He said that the field marshal travelled and held discussions with the Iranian leadership, and did not ever take rest.
“Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held important discussions, and played important role for contact between the Iranian and US leadership for peace,” said PM Shehbaz. He said that the matters regarding the talks between US and Iran are heading towards positive directions.
Following his meeting with Premier Li Qiang, the Pakistani prime minister is scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese leaders. He will also visit Tiananmen Square to lay a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes.
The prime minister is further expected to meet leading Chinese investors and business executives and attend a ceremony marking 75 years of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China.
