ISLAMABAD — A powerful cultural and academic outreach moment unfolded in Pakistan as The Moon is Yours, a 102-minute documentary by veteran filmmaker Vincent Zhou and produced over three years by a team from Fudan University’s School of Journalism, was screened at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), drawing significant attention from students and faculty.
The screening, held on Monday at QAU, is said to be a major milestone for the film’s international journey, its first-ever screening in Pakistan and its fourth overseas showcase, underscoring Fudan University’s expanding global engagement and student recruitment efforts.
The documentary focuses on real-life experiences of international students who are building their academic futures in Shanghai, offering an intimate look into their struggles, aspirations, and cross-cultural adaptation. The screening formed part of a broader outreach campaign aimed at promoting the “Study in China” initiative.
Organized by Fudan University’s School of Journalism, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 100 Pakistani students and faculty members, highlighting growing curiosity and interest in Chinese higher education opportunities.
The impact of the event is set to continue, as the documentary is scheduled for screenings at two more universities in Pakistan over the next two days, further expanding its reach among prospective students.
Before the screening, Xia Tianyi, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism at Fudan University, delivered an introductory address, sharing insights into the film’s production process, narrative themes, and its mission of portraying authentic international student experiences in China.
Following the screening, Fudan University also conducted a detailed admissions briefing, presenting academic programs, scholarship opportunities, and pathways for Pakistani students interested in pursuing higher education at the prestigious institution.
The event was widely seen as a strategic step in strengthening educational diplomacy between the two countries. Salman Ali Bhittani, a lecturer at QAU’s School of Politics and International Relations, described the screening as a “significant milestone” for the Study in China initiative, emphasizing how documentary storytelling can play a powerful role in deepening cultural and academic ties between China and Pakistan.
Student reactions were equally enthusiastic. Tayyabah, a 22-year-old student at QAU, told People’s Daily that the documentary had further strengthened interest among Pakistani youth in studying in China. She described Fudan University as one of China’s most prestigious and globally connected academic institutions.
She added that for many students in Pakistan, pursuing education in China, and later contributing to Pakistan–China cooperation, could represent a highly promising future path.
The screening has added fresh momentum to Fudan University’s outreach efforts in Pakistan, blending cultural storytelling with academic recruitment in what observers see as a growing bridge between the two countries’ educational landscapes.
